Carl Von Hassler

Carl Von Hassler (1887–1969) was a German-born painter celebrated for his vivid depictions of the Southwest. After studying art in Europe, he settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he became known as the “Dean of Albuquerque Artists.” Von Hassler captured the region’s dramatic landscapes, historic architecture, and vibrant cultural heritage with a distinctive style that combined realism and romanticism. His work reflects a deep appreciation for New Mexico’s light, color, and traditions, securing his place among the important early artists of the Southwest.
