Fremont Ellis

Fremont Ellis (1897–1985) was a prominent New Mexico painter and a founding member of Los Cinco Pintores, a group of Santa Fe artists dedicated to portraying the Southwest’s beauty and spirit. Known for his luminous landscapes and impressionistic style, Ellis captured the ever-changing light and color of New Mexico’s mountains, skies, and villages. His work reflects a deep connection to the land and the quiet rhythms of Southwestern life. Today, Fremont Ellis is celebrated as one of the key figures who helped establish New Mexico as a center for American art.
